Please welcome Nicky Marshall to the spotlight. Nicky told me the other day that being on stage in front of her audiences is one of her favourite places to be, so this is a perfect place for her! What she hasn’t shared in here is that having set up her highly successful The Witches Brew, a magical coffee shop and holistic centre serving the most scrummy cake, in the centre of Bristol, she subsequently had a stroke while she was diving. Serendipities or guardian angels ensured her safety which allows her to still be with us and telling us about her life! Talk about a wake up call and reset button!
What do you love most about being you?
I love being an intuitive Piscean soul, which means no day or feeling is ever the same! I wear my heart on my sleeve and can always find something to be positive about. I frequently change my mind and dress according to my mood.
What do you least like?
I get so easily distracted and can change my mind a thousand times before getting to a decision!
Was there a time when you really didn’t like being you?
After my second daughter was born I lost my Granddad and trying to put a brave face on meant I lost myself. I loved my children and family very much, but had turned all feelings off and didn’t love my life. It was a very hard time – I didn’t cry but that meant I didn’t laugh either. When my children were awake I could be happy with them, but as soon as they went to bed the switch flicked off and a year of insomnia was hard to function through.
What was your biggest hang up?
For a long time I tried to be what I thought everyone else wanted me to be, so I felt as if there was a smiley face on the outside but inside I felt completely alone. I thought I always had to put a brave face on so couldn’t share if I was feeling down.
How have you overcome it?
I discovered my spirit! I found out I was a Psychic Medium, which was a complete surprise and spent a long time proving this to myself. I also discovered Paganism which gave me my connection to the world around me. Through visualisation, writing, holistic therapy and working with like minded people I love what I do and what I’m about. I have also given myself permission to have a bad day and use that time to be kind to myself and eat chocolate!
What have you learned?
That it’s ok to be human, make mistakes and take a wrong turn! Being able to laugh about your errors and learn from them allows new and exciting adventures to come your way. After a down time or mistake something wonderful always comes along.
How has it affected your relationships?
Because I know myself people around me see me too. This has meant my children get to see the real me and are allowed to be themselves and we have had some great times together. It means I have more energy to give to my family and friends. I have also met and married the most amazing man ever! In eight years we have had many a discussion but never raised our voices and every day is full of laughter and shared experiences.
If you have any, what are your stumbling blocks?
Getting distracted easily means I can be inefficient and my enthusiasm for life means my diary is always getting too full! I am learning to stand back once a day and review where I am, but if a love for life means I live it to the full then I’m happy with the odd diary clash!
What advice would you give others who don’t yet like themselves?
Find out who you really are, be honest with yourself but don’t judge. Every experience in life leads us to today and we can only ever do our best. Once you know who you are and where you are, start to imagine where you would like to be, get out your magic wand and make your wishes. Try not to think about how they will happen – leave that bit to the Universe! If you can’t love your whole self, start by liking bits of you or things you do and gradually build and improve on that. Remember there is no rule book, no right or wrong – we are all allowed to be ourselves.

You have got to watch those pesky Pisceans !! Difficult to nail down those slippery fish but worth the effort when you get their attention and get them focussed
Isn’t that just the very thing, attention and focus – that’s all three of us as Pisceans!
